Indoor Cycling
It seems like the sport of cycling has and continues to become more and more popular by the day. A lot of folks have embraced this activity which isn’t only enjoyable, but also a very effective form of exercise as well. However, riders can’t always ride outdoors whenever they wish. That is, they have to adhere to factors such as the weather, their schedule, the time of day, etc. This is one of the reasons why a lot of bikers – especially beginners – find it difficult to maintain a regular cycling schedule. For this reason, the evolution of indoor cycling has gained similar popularity to all types of riders.
As the name implies, indoor biking is the activity of cycling indoors, under a roof. However, it is different from outdoor cycling in that the rider stays in place through the use of a stationary bicycle. After all, there’s probably no one in the world who has a big enough mansion to fit a 1-mile course indoors.
There are a number of venues in which indoor cycling can be performed. Most gyms will have stationary bikes as part of their exercise equipment. The primary purpose of these machines are for cardiovascular workouts which are often used as part of one’s workout sessions as a warm up or cool down routine. However, those who are looking for a more realistic cycling experience should head on to spinning centers. Here, the equipment used is designed to mimic an actual outdoor cycling experience. Most machines even allow for side to side movement which replicates the feeling of making sharp turns while on the road.
On the other hand, there are also a number of folks who choose to do their indoor cycling at home. They either purchase a spinning machine (similar to what one can see in spinning centers) or make use of a bike stand. The latter is definitely the cheaper alternative as all it does is lifts the back wheel of one’s outdoor bike so that it stays in place while pedalling. However, there are also a number of bike stand variations and depending on the features, some can get a bit pricey as well.
There are basically two main reasons why folks choose to take up indoor cycling. The first is for purposes of exercise. As mentioned earlier, biking is an excellent way to sweat it out and burn unwanted calories. It also works on users’ endurance and stamina, thereby promoting a healthier body. On the other hand, more serious riders see this activity as a form of training. It allows them to ride during uncooperative weather conditions while also working on their technique and other essential aspects of their game.
